Paintings with Light: Photography Exhibition by Carlos Ricardo
In the exhibition โPinturas com Luzโ (Paintings with Light), abstract art reigns supreme, with some photographs obtained through manipulation. The images invite deep contemplation: they do not reveal themselves immediately, they demand sensitivity and provoke a more emotional than direct reading.
Carlos Ricardo was born in Lisbon in 1942. He began photography in 1977 and held his first solo exhibition in 1984. Between 1985 and 1988, he attended the photography course at AR.CO. He photographs in both color and black and white. From an early age, his interest in non-figurative photography, especially in color, led him to develop abstract photography, which quickly became his favorite theme in this area of image capture. Attentive to the details of objects and the deformation of the image through reflections and other techniques, he always seeks the angle that best creates an image with a strong aesthetic component, both in the framing and in the combination of colors. In black and white, which he considers to have a more dramatic impact, he developed the technique of high contrast, often with light drawings, also dedicating himself to portraiture and recording everyday scenes that convey emotions, movement, and even mystery.
