Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum
ย The Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum opened in July 2007, with an architectural project by Francisco and Manuel Aires de Mateus and a museum program by Joaquim Boiรงa.
Its model is unprecedented in the country, combining exhibition spaces with the function of coastal signaling, supervised by the Navy's Lighthouse Directorate.
With the exception of the cannonball found during archaeological excavations on the site, the collection of the Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum was entirely restored and deposited in the Lighthouse Museum by the Portuguese Navy/Lighthouses Directorate.
The exhibition area is divided into two spaces, housed in the former residences of the lighthouse keepers.
Section 1 - Portuguese Lighthouses: Technology and History exhibits, among other things, large Fresnel lenses, with special emphasis on the optical apparatus panel of the Berlengas Lighthouse, which reaches a height of 3.70m.
In the auditorium, the film Farรณis de Portugal. Five Centuries of History (15 minutes) tells, through the testimony of lighthouse keepers, what it was like to build and maintain these monuments along the Portuguese coast.
Visitors also have access to the platforms - batteries - of the old Fort, and their view of the sea and Cascais Bay.
