“AREAL (3) Nothing with no purpose”, by António Areal, Martim Brion and Sofia Areal
The Cascais Cultural Center brings together three generations of artists from the same family in the exhibition “AREAL(3) Nada com sem propósito”, by António Areal, Martim Brion and Sofia Areal. From May 3 to July 11, you can see painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, writing, ceramics, textiles, among other media and techniques that reveal how artists from different realities look at the world.
It is organized by the D. Luís Foundation, with the support of Cascais City Council, as part of the Bairro dos Museus programme.
The exhibition brings together three approaches to color, line, theme and, ultimately, art, from creative processes and experiences that spanned several decades.
If Sofia Areal grew up, among other influences, around her father's art and artistic process, Martim Brion grew up between his grandfather's and mother's work and followed that same artistic process.
“We hope that this exhibition, which presents a vision of these three generations of artists from the same family, an unusual case, will be something that provides a fourth distinct perspective, that of the viewer, who may be familiar with some of the works or artists presented, but not with all of them and probably less with their connections and disconnections,” says Martim Brion, artist and curator.
