Visits to the Poço Velho Caves
É um dos mais simbólicos mitos urbanos de Cascais. A histórica necrópole do centro da vila, alvo de curiosidade há largas décadas, está aberta ao público para visitas regulares aos fins de semana e feriados.
O monumento fica na margem direita da Ribeira das Vinhas, na Praia da Ribeira, em plena vila de Cascais.
"As grutas do Poço Velho não vão ter ao Guincho, nem à Boca do Inferno como creêm os munícipes mais velhos, agora todos podem comprovar isso ao vivo", referiu Severino Rodrigues, arqueólogo e responsável pela Divisão de Arqueologia e Património Histórico da Câmara Municipal de Cascais.

Only five people are allowed inside the cave at a time (larger groups are divided into smaller groups).
Inside the cave, it is mandatory to wear a hood and helmet, provided by the team at the reception. The helmet must be returned to the same place at the end of the visit.
Children under the age of 6 are not advised to enter, as the use of a helmet is mandatory and we do not currently have helmets suitable for children.
People with claustrophobia, breathing difficulties, reduced mobility, or motor difficulties are not advised to enter. There are very low areas where it is necessary to walk crouched down.
Comfortable, non-slip footwear is recommended.
Please be aware that the floor may be wet and slippery.
Visitors must use the wooden walkway.
The visit must be carried out continuously, avoiding long stops along the circuit.
It is strictly forbidden to take food into the cave.
Do not leave trash or other objects inside the cave.
For conservation reasons, do not use flash photography inside the cave and avoid touching the rock walls.
It is strictly forbidden to remove items from the cave (such as rock fragments).
It is strictly forbidden to write, graffiti, or make incisions on the surfaces.
Animals are not allowed.
