Emotional Eating over the Festive Season Workshop by Lívia Alfenas
Christmas and New Year are times for celebration, sharing and tradition, and food plays a central part in all of them. But do we only eat when we're hungry? How do our emotions, memories and time spent with others shape what we choose to eat?
This workshop, led by Lívia Alfenas, looks at the link between food and emotions. It explores the eating habits many of us fall into over the holidays and offers practical ways to enjoy the festive season more mindfully, with balance and without guilt.
The session covers the difference between physical and emotional hunger, how feelings influence the way we eat, how to recognise hunger and fullness cues, and why a positive, flexible relationship with food matters.
The hands-on part is a sensory mindful eating exercise built around the tronco de Natal, the Portuguese take on the Christmas Yule log cake. It's an invitation to engage all the senses, savour the pleasure of eating and be fully present at the table.
The workshop takes place at Cascais FoodLab, the municipal food lab in the Mercado da Vila, Cascais's town market. Free of charge, but places must be booked in advance. For registration and information, email info@cascaisfoodlab.pt.
