Municipal Heritage Trails - Cascais, 1870-1960: A History in Postcards
Join a guided tour of the exhibition at Casa Sommer, home to the Cascais Municipal Historical Archive, and travel through almost a century of the town's history as told by illustrated postcards from public and private collections. These images capture how Cascais changed, from its streets and buildings to its people and landscapes.
From the late 19th century onwards, postcards carried views of Cascais's beaches, streets, hotels and scenery all over the world, often with handwritten messages in many different languages. Filled with affectionate greetings and travellers' impressions, they became true ambassadors for the town, showing off the beauty of its bay and preserving the memory of an era.
By setting vintage postcards alongside present-day photographs, the exhibition brings these images and words back to life, revealing how Cascais has been experienced and shared by generation after generation. Every postcard has a story waiting to be discovered.
