Description

“– Not another peep!” – Who hasn’t heard that? But why is chirping forbidden? With text by Ágata Pereira, the book “PIO” promotes dialogue and respects differences. It’s an exercise in citizenship and freedom… with humor. Illustrated by Rita Correia, it holds surprises on every page, appealing to the desire and the right to “chirp”… Positively.

Ágata Pereira, born in Lisbon long enough ago… is a primary school teacher and holds a Master’s degree in Didactics of Portuguese – Mother Tongue and Non-Mother Tongue – from the ESE of Lisbon. She believes that art is a free meeting point and values stories as an essential instrument of communication, sharing, and acceptance. She writes, loves to tell stories, and occasionally takes to the stage in an amateur and passionate way. Among her published children's books are “Adelaide” (2016, Alfarroba), “Melissa – Lives of Invertebrates” (2018, Canto Redondo), “Camelote” (2020, Canto Redondo), and this one, “Pio” (2025, self-published).

Rita Correia is an illustrator of affection, paper hearts, and kilos of hugs; these are some of the ways she has become known among many school and family groups since 2012, all thanks to her first project developed from scratch with her own text and illustrations in a completely independent edition – “A Book for You”. With the unexpected success of this self-published edition, she followed with “My Name Is…”, “Illuminate” (PNL recommendation), and, in 2024, “The Gift with the Biggest Ribbon in the World”, which once again addresses humanistic issues such as compassion and empathy. Currently working as an independent illustrator and author, traveling to schools, libraries, and literary events with her own books, continuing to illustrate and collaborate with other authors and projects that share the same humanist values.
