The Universe of Cartonera Books, an exhibition at the Municipal Library of S. Domingos de Rana.
The cartonera movement stands out for: encouraging the reuse of materials and the circular economy; democratizing access to reading and books; valuing artistic expression and manual work; giving voice to authors and themes outside traditional publishing circuits; stimulating critical thinking and civic participation.
This exhibition is a small sample of the heterogeneous universe of cartonera books, a publishing movement that began in Latin America and is marked by creativity, sustainability, and social inclusion. The exhibition brings together 200 books from cartonera publishers in 19 countries, with covers handcrafted from recycled cardboard.
After being presented for the first time in 2018 at the National Library of Portugal, the exhibition continues to bring generations, territories, and cultures closer together, establishing itself as a truly borderless project.
