Becoming Marilyn & Becoming Elvis
In 2026, the centenary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth, Cascais joins the global celebrations honouring one of the greatest icons of the 20th century. The year also marks the 70th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s meteoric rise to fame: the release of his first album, his first film, and the emergence of the King of Rock and Roll.
From 16 May, the Centro Cultural de Cascais presents the exhibition Becoming Marilyn & Becoming Elvis – Photographs from the MUUS Collection, on view until 6 September 2026. Organised by the Fundação D. Luís I with the support of the Câmara Municipal de Cascais, the exhibition brings together the photographs taken by André de Dienes and Alfred Wertheimer of Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962) and Elvis Presley (1935–1977), respectively, on the threshold of stardom. The works are drawn from the prestigious MUUS Collection.
