The Sea of Sophia in Cascais
Inspired by the book The Sea Girl (A Menina do Mar), Sophia's Sea in Cascais invites children to discover the sea of Cascais through literature, art and nature, encouraging a love of reading while strengthening their emotional connection to the sea and local identity.
Over the course of five sessions, participants will explore the poetic universe of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen through dramatized readings and discover how the elements of nature relate to the Cascais coastline: the sound of the waves, seashells, conches, the wind and the secrets of the ocean.
By creating a wind chime inspired by the sea and the stories carried by the wind, and through outdoor games, sensory experiences and art workshops, children will be encouraged to listen, observe and create.
