Description

The recital Romantic Landscapes invites listeners on a melancholic journey through the mists of time, space, and life. From the ancestral Russia and Finland of Mussorgsky and Sibelius to the nostalgic Poland and Moravia of Chopin and Janáček, from the romantic Portugal of Bomtempo to the nocturnal Germany of Schumann, these pieces evoke memories, forests, people and animals, nature, life, love, and death. And, notwithstanding the diversity of the musical languages of João Domingos Bomtempo (1775-1842), Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849), Robert Schumann (1810-1856), Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881), Leoš Janáček (1854-1928), Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), and Sérgio Azevedo (1968), all the pieces share this romantic connection between the composer's intimate experiences and their music.
