Description

As part of the Celebrar Cascais celebrations, World Oceans Day, and the event โ€œCascais: A Meeting Place for Centenary Vesselsโ€, this activity highlights the townโ€™s historical connection to fishing and the sea and helps to preserve and promote local heritage and identity. At the micro shipyard set up along Passeio D. Luรญs I, next to Praia da Ribeira, visitors will have the opportunity to watch the live construction of a traditional Cascais โ€œChataโ€, following the original boatbuilding techniques used for these fishing vessels.

The event also offers the chance to meet โ€œTรณโ€ Simรฃo, fisherman and the townโ€™s last master boatbuilder, as well as the iconic โ€œMaria da Luzโ€ Chata, winner of the last edition of the Chata Races, held in Cascais in 1982.
