How a "Chata" Is Built: A Live Micro Shipyard Experience
As part of the celebrations for Municipality Week and World Oceans Day, this event evokes the townโs historic connection to fishing and the sea, while contributing to the preservation and promotion of local memory and identity. At the micro shipyard set up along Passeio D. Luรญs I, next to Praia da Ribeira, visitors will have the opportunity to watch the live construction of a traditional Cascais โChataโ, following the original boatbuilding techniques used for these fishing vessels.
The event also offers the chance to meet โTรณโ Simรฃo, fisherman and the townโs last master boatbuilder, as well as the iconic โMaria da Luzโ Chata, winner of the last edition of the Chata Races, held in Cascais in 1982.
