Description

As part of a series of talks with surfer-authors, the presentation of Nazaré will feature the presence of its author, Ricardo Bravo.

This book brings together images that capture both the fury and serenity of Nazaré’s magnificent sea, accompanied by powerful accounts from some of the world’s leading big-wave surfers. It stands as a tribute to the force of Nature and the courage of those who challenge it.

Featuring forewords by João Valente and Pedro Adão e Silva, the project was conceived during the pandemic and the economic crisis that followed. It was made possible through a crowdfunding campaign launched by the author, enabling the publication of the first book dedicated entirely to the Sea of Nazaré. The project proved so successful that it led to a second edition — supported by the Municipality of Nazaré — as well as several photography exhibitions, most notably The Untamed Wave, presented in Brazil across three venues along the Caminho Niemeyer cultural complex, including the iconic Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) in Niterói.

Ricardo Bravo was born in Lisbon in 1975, where he lived until the age of 30. He studied Photography at ETIC – School of Innovation and Creative Technologies and at Ar.Co – Centre for Art and Visual Communication. He rode his first waves at the age of 13 and began photographing the sea and surf in the 1990s, first on the Costa da Caparica and later around the world. Today, he is a professional photographer, married and the father of two daughters, and still checks the surf and weather forecasts every day.
