Description

In a safe, comfortable, and secure space, a silent threat gradually takes hold. In The Room (1957), Harold Pinter rigorously reveals the fragility of human relationships and the fear of the Other, constructing a universe where violence manifests itself through silence, humor, and a growing atmosphere that is both absurd and suffocating. Rose and Bert live in a rented room in a routine marked by repetition and isolation. As different visits interrupt this closed daily life, the space becomes progressively unstable, revealing a past that disturbs and destroys the present, without ever offering answers about who the characters were or are.

In a context marked by isolation, insecurity, and difficulty in communication, The Room exposes mechanisms of exclusion and control that continue to permeate contemporary society.

Harold Pinter, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005, is a central figure in contemporary theater. His work, marked by ambiguous figures and unusual situations, contains strong dramatic tension and disconcerting humor, decisively transforming 20th-century dramaturgy.
The staging of The Room marks Ricardo Neves-Neves' first collaboration with the Cascais Experimental Theatre. This staging simultaneously underlines the latent violence and the comic dimension of the text, valuing rhythm, language, and the instability of human relationships, central characteristics of the Pinterian universe.

The premiere takes place on February 27th at the Mirita Casimiro Municipal Theatre, in a production by the Cascais Experimental Theatre.
