Exhibition at the King Carlos Maritime Museum
The Sardinha exhibition is the result of extensive documentary work by photographer Hรฉlder Luรญs, carried out between 2018 and 2022, following purse seine fishing along the coast from north to south. The photographs and infographics on display reveal life on board, the work of the crews, and the collective strength of this fishing technique, in a timely and necessary portrait of Portuguese maritime culture. It is an in-depth look at purse seine fishing, built up over dozens of trips from the country's main ports and experienced by sharing the same conditions that shape the lives of these fishermen.
Helder Luรญs, a native of Pรณvoa de Varzim, is a designer, multimedia artist, musician, and photographer. He studied graphic design and typography and, since 2018, has been dedicated to maritime culture as a documentary photographer, using photography, installation, and book publishing to record coastal practices, cultural changes, and collective memories.
