"The Last Prison," by Francisco Quintas
The Experimental Theater of Cascais, interested in promoting new national authors, opened applications in 2023 for the 2nd edition of the contest for unpublished young theater texts, having previously done so in 2018, during Cascais - European Youth Capital.
With the proposed theme of Freedom, aiming to contribute to the Commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the April 25th Carnation Revolution, the young author of the winning work has the opportunity to see their play premiered in a production by the Experimental Theater of Cascais in 2024.
The selected text speaks of a political prisoner, a former PJ (Judicial Police), and takes us back to the moments before the April 25th, 1974 Revolution, showing us the modus operandi of censorship, with the manipulation of the regime in force, political imprisonments, and torture, leaving the door open for a broader dramaturgical reflection on the proposed theme.
