Description

This exhibition presents the work of the talented and controversial Augusto Cid, whose archive was deposited in the Municipal Historical Archive of Cascais in 2019, aiming at its preservation and public enjoyment. With the April 25, 1974 revolution, which guaranteed the right to free creation once again, cartoonists regained the prominence lost in a society that would increasingly focus on communication through images and self-questioning through criticism and humor. It was precisely during this period that Augusto Cid established himself with the sharpness of his gaze, in a body of work that is indelibly fused with the history of contemporary Portugal, presented here through the cartoons he published in newspapers and magazines such as "Povo Livre," "República," "O Jornal Novo," "Expresso," "O País," "O Sol," "Vida Mundial," "O Dia," "O Diabo," "A Tarde," "O Independente," "O Crime," "O Título," "K," "Focus," "Grande Reportagem," or "Sol." The exhibition also includes photographs, working materials, and unpublished pieces, particularly in the field of sculpture, which has always fascinated this major figure in Portuguese culture.
