Bibliographic Exhibition "From 1974 to 2024: The Evolution of Children's Books"
Did you know that UNESCO proclaimed the year 1974 as the International Year of the Child Book and the year 1979 as the International Year of the Child? Thus, focusing attention on children, books, and reading.
During the Estado Novo regime, children's books had a didactic, nationalist, and moralistic character. With the advent of democracy, the focus shifted to the child and the need to motivate them towards books and reading. Gradually, illustrations began to accompany the child's age group: the younger the child, the more images and fewer "letters" the book would have.
During the months of March and April, the Children's and Youth Library celebrates April 25th and also children's books. Come celebrate with us and discover the differences between books published in the 1970s and reissued a few years later.
