SOLD OUT

In this meeting, which will feature presentations reflecting on the insights of over a dozen researchers and information professionals, the policies and practices that ensured the transition of Portuguese libraries and archives to democracy will be evaluated. This assessment and exchange of perspectives will stimulate discussion around the guidelines of some of the most emblematic ongoing projects, which will be presented here. The main ruptures and continuities will be debated, but above all, the innovations projected and implemented by these spaces of freedom, in favor of democratizing access to information, will be discussed, based on the concepts of privatization, decentralization, inclusion, transparency, open access, non-formal education, and creativity.

The strengthening of the right to information and cultural enjoyment guaranteed by Libraries and Archives has transformed unmediated and networked public access into a necessity. It has also resulted in the urgency of strengthening their cooperation with schools and universities, in order to meet the needs and expectations of the communities they serve, with a view to attracting and sharing new and more active audiences. In this context, the profile and challenges of information professionals have also evolved, as will be discussed in the roundtable that concludes this meeting.
