Exhibition “Under the surface” - sculptural wet felting by Cristina Rodo
The Museu do Mar Rei D. Carlos is presenting "Sob a Superfície", an exhibition by textile artist Cristina Rodo. The show brings together sculptural pieces, wall and ceiling suspensions and works with light, all created in wet felting, an ancient technique that is still little known in Portugal.
Cristina Rodo's works are born from an experimental approach with pieces that do not seek to reproduce reality, but rather express her own free, intuitive and sensory vision, inspired by the marine universe.
"Under the Surface" invites the public to dive into the depths of felted wool, exploring shapes, textures and sensations that evoke the fluidity, silence and mystery of the ocean.
Despite her artistic training in photography and textile design, Cristina Rodo followed a career path that was far removed from creative practice for many years. Later, she found in wet felting the means of expression that would transform her life. Since then, she has signed her work under the name Criations, and has made a name for herself on the contemporary textile art scene, participating in national and international exhibitions.
She was recently invited to write an article for the prestigious international magazine FeltMatters about her preparation process for this exhibition, which we are presenting in Cascais from September 5 to November 12.
