Description

The next visit of the Municipal Heritage Tours will be dedicated to Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Cascais, an institution founded in 1551 and holder of a valuable architectural, artistic, and religious heritage accumulated over almost five centuries of history.

During the tour, participants will have the opportunity to explore the interior of the 16th-century church, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, as well as the old sacristy and several wooden sculptures dating from the 16th to 18th centuries. The visit also includes the Misericórdia Museum, which houses a rich collection of religious paintings, including four panels attributed to Cristóvão Vaz (1590). In this museum, you can also see the vestments, utensils, and liturgical implements used in the religious ceremonies of this brotherhood.
