Wisdom Encounters: Expanded States of Consciousness. A path to Personal and Spiritual Development
This event, the third in the โEncounters of Wisdomโ series, a project conceived and promoted by Maria da Conceiรงรฃo Valdez Telles de Menezes, features Mรกrio Simรตes and, as commentator, Armando Soares, Councilman of the Municipality of Oeiras.
A brief introduction to the definition of Consciousness is given. Its physiological and modified states are discussed. Some ways of inducing modified and expanded states of consciousness are described: a brief description of clinical hypnosis, rhythmic sound and dance, meditation, and psychedelics. Reference is made to expanded states of consciousness susceptible to personal development and spirituality: near-death experiences, positive futures, regression to supposed past lives, and โcontactsโ with the deceased.
Mรกrio Simรตes is a Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, Retired Professor of Psychiatry and Consciousness Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon. He is co-author of the book โPsychology of Consciousness - a transpersonal perspectiveโ and the book โManual of Clinical Hypnosis - theory, research, and practice.โ
