Themed tour “Women of the Sea: Tides of Strength” at the King Carlos Maritime Museum
On this themed tour, participants will learn about the central role of women in Cascais' coastal identity and in the silent but powerful construction of local community life. Guardians of traditional knowledge, mediators between the sea and the land, and protagonists of a daily life marked by resilience, fishmongers represent an organic form of democracy: one that arises from mutual aid, sharing, and active occupation of public space.
As part of the celebration of Cascais as European Capital of Democracy in 2026, this visit aims to pay tribute to the women who, throughout the 20th century, helped to create a vibrant, inclusive, and pluralistic social fabric in Cascais—values that are fundamental to the construction of a democratic society.
