Visit to the Cascais Tide Gauge on National Sea Day
Did you know that Cascais is home to one of the oldest tide gauges in the world?
In continuous operation since 1882, the Cascais Tide Gauge was a pioneer in tide observation and is still the only one of its kind in operation today.
This small building by the sea holds another secret: it is from here that the altitude of the entire Portuguese mainland is measured. On National Sea Day, November 16, we will discover how science and history meet at this national landmark, where time, sea, and land intersect.
