Description

The ‘Cascais Ópera’ - International Singing Competition had its inaugural edition in April 2024, at the Cascais Cultural Centre and the São Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon. Designed as a ‘showcase’ for the most promising of new operatic singers, the International Singing Competition is open until 15 December to all vocal types aged between 18 and 32.

Artistic Director and renowned baritone Sergei Leiferkus will also be President of the International Jury in 2025, which includes important personalities from the world of opera such as Pal Moe from Glyndebourne, Ivan van Kalmthout, senior opera executive, Anna Samuil, Berliner Staatsoper and soprano Juliane Banse.

The final stage of the competition will take place this year in the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, one of the most renowned venues in Europe, and the finalists will be accompanied by the orchestra of the São Carlos National Theatre - Portuguese Symphony Orchestra.

A town with a rich and prestigious history, chosen by numerous members of royal families and celebrities throughout the 20th and 21st centuries as a place to live or visit, Cascais combines the glamour of that past with major events in the present, combining culture and tourist attraction.

With the ambition of quickly becoming one of the most prestigious international operatic singing competitions, the Cascais Ópera - International Singing Competition is already developing a positive application process to the WFIMC - World Federation of International Music Competitions and is a member of the OLA - Opera Latinoamerica, thus helping to reinforce Cascais' cultural weight on the world opera scene.
