Description

This exhibition will present the story of some of the personalities who passed through Cascais during the Second World War, based on ongoing research into the guest accommodation bulletins preserved in the Municipal Historical Archive. The figures evoked in this exhibition reflect the multiplicity of stories that crossed paths on the Costa do Sol during one of the most dramatic moments in human history.

Due to its position of neutrality during the Second World War, Portugal became a haven for all those fleeing the Nazi occupation, especially after the war. Nazi occupation, especially after France's capitulation in June 1940. Although our country was already sought after as a destination for vacations and business, from then on, Jews and opponents of Nazism flocked to Portugal, which is why Cascais, but especially Estoril, would welcome a large number of forced guests, who were waiting here for the documents that would allow them to escape from a Europe at war.

The exhibition takes place as part of the Municipal Week program.
