Guided Tour: “Treasures of the Cascais Municipal Historical Archive”
As part of the celebrations for Municipality Week and International Archives Day, we invite the public to discover some of the most iconic documents preserved in the Cascais Municipal Historical Archive. Founded on August 25, 1987, its mission is to collect, organize, preserve, and disseminate the permanent records in its custody, which are essential for reconstructing the municipality’s past.
The tour includes access to areas normally off-limits and to unique items such as the Charter of Cascais from 1514, the Book of Ordinances (1587–1837), and the engraving by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg from c. 1530, which contains the oldest known detailed depiction of the Cascais coastline.
