Workshop: Creating mosaics using Roman techniques
In the year marking the unveiling of the mosaic at the manor house of the Roman villa at Freiria, in Polima, we invite you to discover the ancient art of Roman mosaics.
Over the course of five sessions, you will have the opportunity to learn the construction techniques used in Roman times, creating your own mosaic rug using synthetic tesserae. Inspired by the decorative motifs of the Roman villa at Freiria, you will explore the patterns, shapes and symbolism that characterised the decoration of this important archaeological site.
Biographical note on the trainer:
Carlos Beloto is renowned for his technical and scientific contributions to the conservation and restoration of Roman mosaics in Portugal. He is internationally recognised in the field of mosaic conservation, serving on specialist bodies, organising conferences and contributing to exhibitions and scientific publications.
