A look at Gliding Barnacles: a festival of surfing, music, art and food
As part of the series of talks with surfing writers, this session will introduce the world of Gliding Barnacles, a festival that brings together surfing, music, art and gastronomy in a celebration of maritime culture.
Eurico Daniel Batalha Gonçalves, the festival’s main organiser since 2014, will share the history, values and evolution of this project, which grew out of a simple idea and a desire to bring the sea closer to the city.
The session will include the presentation of the photography books “We’re on the road to somewhere”, curated by photographer Valter Vinagre, designer Pedro Falcão and art historian Filipe Ribeiro; and “Percebes”, by Valter Vinagre – publications that document moments, landscapes, people and experiences associated with the festival, revealing different perspectives on the connection between surfing, artistic creation and the local area.
Eurico Gonçalves was born in Angola in 1969. He studied Law at the International University of Figueira da Foz, the city where he has lived since 1994.
