La Vera Costanza
After more than two centuries away from the stage, La Vera Costanza, by Portuguese composer Jerónimo Francisco de Lima (1743–1822), returns on October 3 in a modern premiere of a new production by the Portuguese Opera Laboratory, at the Salão Preto e Prata.
This delightful opera, in its 1789 version, follows the story of Rosina, a young fisherwoman who, after secretly marrying Count Errico and having a child, is abandoned by her husband. Determined to keep her away from the family for good, Baroness Irene arranges a marriage with the wealthy but naïve Villotto. Amid intrigues, misunderstandings, and comic situations, fate brings Rosina and Errico together once again, leading to an unexpected reunion.
La Vera Costanza celebrates love, fidelity, and the power of redemption in a work that combines humour, lyricism, and music of extraordinary beauty.
