Conference: Reynaldo dos Santos: Facing Heritage at Risk: The Preservation of the Pastrana Tapestries and Cultural Heritage during the Spanish Civil War
The Reynaldo dos Santos and Irene Quilhรณ dos Santos Foundation presents the lecture โReynaldo dos Santos on Heritage at Risk: The Preservation of the Prestana Tapestries and Cultural Heritage during the Spanish Civil Warโ.
The discovery by Josรฉ de Figueiredo Reynaldo dos Santos of the Pastrana tapestries, commissioned by King Afonso V to commemorate territorial conquests in North Africa, has led to several studies on their significance.
During the Spanish Civil War (1936โ1939), the Republican government sought to preserve movable heritage held in both museums and palaces. Reynaldo dos Santos was involved in this preservation effort, having been in Geneva for the opening of the exhibition of Spanish works of art organised by the Spanish Republican and Swiss governments, which opened in August 1939.
