Description

As part of the European Heritage Days 2026, celebrated this year under the theme ‘Heritage at risk: revive, resist, reimagine’, the Museum of Portuguese Music – Casa Verdades de Faria is hosting a presentation dedicated to a great treasure of national culture: 18th-century Portuguese azulejos.

The session focuses on the reign of King João V (1725–1750), a period during which the azulejo reached its zenith. Integrated into Baroque architecture, it stood out for its large figurative panels in blue and white, its rich ornamentation and its mastery of perspective, in a period that followed the Cycle of the Masters.

Drawing on the Casa Verdades de Faria tile collection, the presentation will also highlight the role of the azulejo as an essential element of João V-era architecture.

The presentation invites reflection on the need to preserve this heritage, recognising the risks it faces and the importance of promoting its conservation.
