“Banquette of Truth,” by Luís Roquette and António Sousa Lara
The “Banquette” concert is a project created by musician, author, and composer Luís Roquette and visual artist António Sousa Lara, parishioners of Estoril and Cascais, combining music with original paintings inspired by biblical chronology.
Dedicated to music, painting, and cinema since childhood, and dreaming of a way to bear witness to the Christian faith through art, they were inspired by the paintings of João de Sousa Araújo and the music linked to the visual arts, as well as the Portuguese friar Hermano da Câmara, fado, Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” and the powerful films of Mel Gibson, all of which served as inspiration for this original work.
The concert brings together various musicians forming a band and singers gathered around a table, simulating a banquet, where the food is the divine word and biblical texts to understand our human, sociological, and spiritual origins in the current modern context and the way of living family life, marriage, and the vocation to which we are all called.
The show aims to lead the audience to a profound reflection on the Passion, Easter, and Christmas in their origins, to better live in the moment.
