Visits to the Poço Velho Caves
It is one of Cascais' most symbolic urban myths. The historical necropolis in the center of the town, a source of curiosity for decades, is open to the public for regular visits on weekends and holidays. The monument is located on the right bank of the Ribeira das Vinhas, in Praia da Ribeira, in the heart of Cascais.
"The caves of Poço Velho do not lead to Guincho, nor to Boca do Inferno as older residents believe; now everyone can verify this firsthand," says Severino Rodrigues, archaeologist and head of the Archaeology and Historical Heritage Division of the Cascais Municipal Council.
