The Butterfly Garden, located in the Quinta de Rana Urban Park, is a butterfly hatchery - where visitors can observe the different stages of the life cycle of butterflies: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly. This year is the 10th anniversary of our Butterfly Garden, and to celebrate this date we will have a weekend full of activities - 25th and 26th of march, for children and adults.
The Butterfly Garden’s structure is unique and is visually reminiscent of a cocoon, in a metamorphosis stage. The interior includes a garden, with various species of local flora, where
butterflies can be see flying freely about. The site also includes a laboratory, whose function is to serve as a hatchery for eggs, larvae and pupae.
The Butterfly Garden introduces visitors to the different butterfly species found in the Cascais area, highlights the biology of this insect group and their link with plants, and offers visitors
an observation and learning experience that will awaken interest in Nature Conservation and Biodiversity.
