Time fell on her like a tear: Collage and Poetry Exhibition by Letícia Barreto and Maria Joana Almeida
“And there you came
with spring among the words
rewriting those
that slip into the precipice”
(Maria Joana Almeida)
In this dialogue, between the work of Letícia and Maria Joana, there is a space of silence that amplifies memories where many words reside. This exhibition is also a complicit celebration between International Women's Day and World Poetry Day.
Letícia Barreto's collages explore the subtle dynamics between the invisible threads that connect us – ties, knots, and disharmonies that constitute the fabric of human experience. Silence permeates her practice as an essential element. It inhabits the empty spaces and the intervals between forms, suggesting absences, secrets, and the unspoken – that which we keep silent out of fear, convenience, or respect.
Maria Joana Almeida's poems have been defined as a "direct arrow to the heart." In light and free language, they evoke dense images of love, memory, desire, longing, and death. His poetry is a constant weaving of restlessness and self-reflection.
Accept the invitation and the challenge to find individual echoes in these stories that are so collective.
