Book launch of "Noises of Silence" by Ana Catarina Frade
The work Ruรญdos de Silรชncio (Noises of Silence), by Ana Catarina Frade, belongs to the German literary genre "Bildungsroman" and takes place in 19th-century Portugal. Its central theme is silence, both imposed silence and the silence that arises from the veiled language of a patriarchal society that begins the search for female emancipation.
The narrative follows Maria Beatriz, from her childhood confined to a rural village to her affirmation as a free woman in the capital, highlighting the contrast between the tradition of the rural upper bourgeoisie and the intellectual circles of Lisbon. The book sensitively explores the journey between tradition and freedom, silence and expression.
The author, Ana Catarina Frade, born in Porto in 1969, is an enthusiast of reading, writing, and history. She holds a degree in Modern Languages โโand Literatures from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon and has postgraduate and master's degrees in Special Education. She works professionally as a teacher and translator.
