Grand Charity Concert of Classical Music, by the Metropolitan Academic Orchestra
The Senhora da Boa Nova Auditorium in Estoril will host the Grand Solidarity Classical Music Concert by the Metropolitan Academic Orchestra, organized by the Rotary Club of Cascais and Estoril, a non-profit association integrated into Rotary International.
The concert is for charity, with proceeds going towards the purchase of equipment for CERCICA – a Cooperative for Education, Rehabilitation and Empowerment for Inclusion in Cascais.
Metropolitan Academic Orchestra (OAM) | It debuted in 1993, following the creation of the National Higher Academy of Orchestra (ANSO) – a unique institution in the country, dedicated to training professional musicians in the areas of Instrument and Orchestra Conducting. From the beginning, the OAM has been led by Jean-Marc Burfin, principal conductor. Initially composed of fewer than thirty members, the OAM is now a symphonic ensemble encompassing approximately 70 musicians. With a season that extends throughout each academic year, the OAM maintains a regular schedule of rehearsals and concerts, performing not only in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area but also in other regions of the country. Having performed hundreds of concerts, encompassing a repertoire ranging from Baroque to 20th-century music, the OAM has performed works by such representative composers as Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Mahler, Ravel, Debussy, Milhaud, Bartók, Hindemith, Stravinsky, and Varèse, among others. In addition to its principal conductor, the OAM is usually conducted by students of the Higher Course in Orchestra Conducting.
