Inauguration of the museum exhibition of the mosaic from the Roman "villa" in Freiria
As part of the project to recover and enhance the roman villa of Freiria, in Polima, which was opened to the public in 2018, the Cascais Municipal Council is now significantly reinforcing the offering of this archaeological site of unique interest for understanding the history of our community.
Visitors can admire the mosaic that decorated the dining room of the house of Titus Curiacius Rufinus, lord of the villa more than 2000 years ago. To this end, following the conservation and restoration work on these 4th-century mosaics, a large wooden roof was built, equipped with a balcony that allows visitors a more comprehensive understanding of the ruins and the experiences they bear witness to.
The ensemble, which preserves three of the four original polychrome mosaic carpets, was found in one of the compartments surrounding the central open-air space of the quadrangular house and can be admired every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
