Temporary Exhibition: Fish Intelligence – Behavioural Complexity in the Underwater World
Temporary exhibition “Fish Intelligence: Behavioural Complexity in an Underwater World”, organised by the Guia Marine Laboratory, MARE – Centre for Marine and Environmental Sciences, and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, to be held at the King Carlos I Maritime Museum in Cascais.
This exhibition aims to bring scientific research closer to the public, challenging the traditional view of fish as simple organisms. Through a journey exploring the senses, the brain, learning, social relationships and culture, visitors will be invited to discover the sophisticated cognitive abilities of these animals — including learning, memory, individual recognition, cooperation and problem-solving — and to understand how environmental changes can affect the behaviour and cognition of fish.
Combining contemporary science, examples from the natural world and a strong visual and educational component, the exhibition aims to stimulate scientific curiosity, promote ocean literacy and encourage new ways of looking at underwater life.
