Estoril Brass, Recital by the OCCO – Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra
The OCCO Brass Ensemble performs at the Portuguese Music Museum – Casa Verdades de Faria with a varied repertoire. Gustav Holst's Second Suite, presented in an arrangement by D. Sabourin, reflects the British composer's deep interest in the traditional music of his homeland.
Russian composer Victor Ewald (1860–1935) is considered one of the pioneers of writing for brass ensembles. Like many Russian musicians of his time, his principal profession was civil engineering. The recital also features works by two contemporary American composers, Eric Ewazen (1954) and Kerry Turner (1960). The programme is completed with a work by the Austrian-born British composer, conductor and pianist Joseph Horovitz (1926–2022), celebrating the centenary of his birth.
