Description

The Condes de Castro Guimarães Museum is celebrating its 94th anniversary.

To mark the date, on Sunday, July 13, at 5 p.m., there will be a concert by the Banda Filarmónica da Sociedade Musical Alvidense, which has its origins in the Grupo Recreativo Futuro Alvidense, founded 106 years ago. The event takes place outside the Museum, in the open air, and is free of charge. We invite the public to enjoy an excellent evening.

On Saturday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m., the afternoon will be a tribute to the Count of Castro Guimarães and his favorite composers in a recital for flute and harp. We invite the audience to enjoy the best chamber music written during the 19th century and the beginning of the next, with works by Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy. Flutist David Silva and harpist Rebeca Amorim Csalog have prepared a magnificent musical program, in partnership with the Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães. The recital is free of charge, but subject to prior registration due to the capacity of the room (50 seats).

In the 94th anniversary year of this emblematic cultural facility in Cascais, we celebrate and evoke the taste that the Count of Castro Guimarães had for musical events.

Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães | It is housed in the former Torre de S. Sebastião, built between 1897 and 1900 on the Santa Marta cove on the initiative of Jorge O'Neill, who later sold it to Count Manuel de Castro Guimarães. In 1924, the Count bequeathed the house and all its artistic and bibliographical contents to the town of Cascais in his will, so that it could become a municipal museum and public library, linked to the gardens and the adjoining park “for public recreation”. Cascais' first museum was inaugurated on July 12, 1931.
