“Paula Rego's Imagined Stories”, theatrical performance by Ato Livre
“Paula Rego's Imagined Stories” is a theatrical performance created from the transposition of five of the painter's paintings onto the bodies of the performers and their relationship to her central themes, both feminine and universal, such as female genital mutilation, the right to abortion, ‘caring’, family and revenge.
The Family (1988), Dog Woman (1994), The Angel (1998), Untitled (Abortion Triptych, third image), 1998 and Circumcision (2009): what stories exist in these works? How do we transform ourselves in these paintings and, subsequently, are we transformed by them?
