Local Heritage Routes | The Roman villae of Cascais
This itinerary proposes a visit to two important archaeological sites dating back to the Roman period: the villae of Casais Velhos (Areia-Guincho) and Freiria (S. Domingos de Rana).
Around the then Roman city of Felicitas Julia Olissipo (Lisbon), from the 1st century AD onwards, the territory was profusely occupied by villae, mostly dedicated to the exploitation of agricultural and farming resources, which reached their peak in the 3rd century.
