On October 16, Cascais will celebrate World Food Day with an experience as part of the “Culture at the Table” cycle, dedicated to Saloia culture and cuisine, to be held at the Cascais Rural Area Interpretation Center, located in the Casal Saloio de Outeiro de Polima.

This experience brings to the table some traditional specialties from the Saloia Region, where part of the municipality of Cascais is located. The menu, prepared exclusively for the experience, focuses on fresh produce and ingredients so characteristic of this rural cuisine, in a contemporary fusion of flavors, favoring seasonal products, a healthy balance and environmental sustainability.

Participants will also have the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Interpretation Centre and a commented and harmonized tasting of wine from the Bucelas, Carcavelos and Colares Route, as well as demonstrations of Saloia culture.

This region, located in the heterogeneous geography of Extremadura, is an area of great cultural confluence, where Atlantic Portugal meets Mediterranean Portugal. Historically, Lisbon and its surrounding area have always attracted people from practically every part of the country.

Assumed to be a rural and predominantly agricultural area, which supplied the capital, a fact that is still true today, its cuisine draws on the gardens, orchards, vineyards and cereal fields for a variety of fresh foods. It's a land of fruit and livestock, from sheep to goats and dairy cows that produce beautiful fresh or cured cheeses. In the fields, wheat, olive oil and wine (the characteristic Mediterranean food trilogy) are joined by aromatic and wild herbs.
