Description

The exhibition ‘Ao longe o Mar’ brings together 15 illustrations based on stories shared by fishermen from Cascais.
This project, by Marta Nunes, who has excelled in the field of illustration, was realised in partnership with the Museu do Mar Rei D. Carlos and its main premise was to value and preserve the memory of the people of the sea of Cascais, who have surprising life stories that build the collective imagination of local fishermen.

After several interviews with the fishing community, the artist interpreted the stories she collected through the art of illustration, creating visual narratives that transform the episodes recounted into unique and moving works, revealing the courage and determination of those who find their livelihood at sea.

Marta Nunes (1984) | Graduated in Architecture from the University of Beira Interior, she has participated in group and solo exhibitions since 2010. Since 2019, illustration has been her main activity, and her interest in Portuguese tradition and culture has characterised some of her work. Expressions, people, traditional crafts, everyday objects and the poetics of working days are the themes that most inspire the artist in the construction of narratives.
