“Over the course of five independent workshops, we will work on the series as a narrative whole. In the various sessions, each participant will choose a character, moment, space or painting from a story that will take shape at the end of the day through joint work. Starting from the classic techniques most used by Paula Rego in hollow engraving, etching and aquatint, each workshop will address one of the complementary techniques she used with particular freedom in the series of curved plates.” [Ana Natividade]
> “Resin Clouds and Handmade Stars | November 25, 2024 (registration until November 20, 2024)
In this session we'll work more classically with the grain of the resin in the aquatint to create more delicate or coarse tones, using the sugar technique and hard varnish as a stop-out for borders, contrasts and masks.
> Blind Goat, Thin or Thick? - Thin” | December 14, 2024 (registration until December 11, 2024)
In this session we will combine the delicacy of resin grains with the bite of Spit-Bite. This technique allows for more diluted tones close to Lavis.
> “Blind goat, thin or thick?- Blind goat, thin or thick? - Thick- Blind goat, thin or thick? - Thick- Thick” | January 25, 2025 (registration until January 22, 2025)
In this session we'll combine the size of the resin grains with the soap-water paint technique, which allows us to achieve varied, thin or fat textures that are closer to oil painting.
> “Drawing in the Dark” | February 22, 2025 (registration until February 19, 2025)
Or drawing in the dark to open up the light. Using direct techniques such as the dry point and the black way, more rarely used by Paula Rego, we will scratch, sand, brush, grit, tear and polish. The plate resists and the drawing becomes more physical and violent.
> “Crows and Velvet” | March 22, 2025 (registration until March 19, 2025)
The seduction of soft varnish surfaces; fabrics, fur, feathers and other absorbent or reflective textures in this technique closer to Paula Rego's drawing and lithographic work.
