Description

The Cascais Cultural Center is hosting the works of artist Ana Lima-Netto (Lisbon, 1960) in the exhibition “Manifestations”, which can be visited from February 15 to April 20, 2025. For this series of works, produced between 2022 and 2023, the artist starts from the interpretation of concepts and myths from ancient Greece (in particular the Myth of Er, told by Plato in “The Republic”, about the man who, killed in battle, came back to life to tell what he had seen in the afterlife), to create intricate drawings, installations and sculptures in which line is the common element and metal is the primary material.

Ana Lima-Netto questions and reflects on the true meaning of life and its transcendence. “In the creative process, I'm interested in reading ancient philosophical texts that address the goals and relationships of human nature that are deposited in the unconscious of each person,” the artist reflects.

Through works of art that evoke the resilient fragility of the human condition, “Manifestations” turns the rooms it occupies at the Cascais Cultural Center into a space for introspection and internal dialog. The exhibition is designed to provoke an emotional response, leading visitors to rediscover their own beliefs and values, and encouraging them to reflect on their own dualities.

Ana Lima-Netto graduated in Architecture from the University of Lisbon's School of Fine Arts and has been working in the visual arts for three decades. Her works are part of prestigious institutional and private collections and have been widely exhibited in Portugal and abroad. As well as her own work developed in the studio, marked by experimentation, the artist has been teaching at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes since 2015, where she also serves on the board of directors.
