Description

Clube Naval de Cascais hosts the first Corinthian European Championship in the J/70 class.

The International J/70 Class has awarded the organisation of the first J/70 Corinthian European Championship to Cascais in 2024.

The event will take place between 1 and 6 April and will be organised by the Clube Naval de Cascais (CNC). The world-renowned Clube Naval de Cascais, which is celebrating its 87th anniversary this year, has vast experience in organising top international regattas, having already been nominated last year to host the 2026 J/70 World Championship.

"We readily welcomed the proposal from the Portuguese J/70 Class to organise this new format with Clube Naval Cascais. We see this as an excellent opportunity to offer the J/70 community another international corinthian regatta in a world-renowned sailing venue like Cascais. This new event is a great way to start the 2025 J/70 sailing and racing season," said Vittorio Di Mauro, President of the International J/70 Class.

โ€˜What the J/70 class has done in the Corinthian division is impressive,โ€™ commented Francisco Brito e Abreu, President of the Clube Naval de Cascais. โ€˜The vast majority of sailors around the world are amateurs, so it's a great honour and opportunity for us to work together with the J/70 class to keep the competitive spirit of the Corinthian alive.โ€™

For this championship, 68 boats and around 300 sailors have already registered, representing 18 countries: Australia, Brazil, China, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
