Compay Segundo
Ambassadors of Cuban Son perform at Casino Estoril on 11 April.
Cuban rhythms will invade the country in three concerts honouring Compay Segundo, one of the great names in Cuban music. On stage will be nine musicians from the group that lives up to the memory of the man who gave them their name, led by his son, Salvador Repilado Labrada.
Through reinterpretations of classics from the Cuban songbook, the group invites the audience to savour the essence of Cuban culture and the colour of Latin Jazz, celebrating Son, the name of this musical genre that Cuba declared a National Cultural Heritage Site in September 2012. This style, which originated in the eastern part of the island and was a fusion of Spanish and African traditions in 1880, remains full of vitality and has a clearly marked underlying rhythm that gives it an unmistakable tropical charm.
โGuantanameraโ, โEl Beso Discretoโ, โMacusaโ, โChan Chanโ or โLa Negra Tomasaโ and โJuramentoโ are just some of the many tropical melodies that will be heard in these three shows by Grupo Compay Segundo in Portugal in April 2025.
